19th century Royal Navy Officers Elsinore bowl, painted with a vessel in sail, old label to the base reads ''Sir Frederick William Erksine Nicolson Baronet Captain in the Royal Navy, residing in William Street, Albert Gate, London', the bowl was presented to captains passing through the Elsinore Sound, Denmark by shipping agents at the port of Helsingor (Elsinore), Admiral Sir Frederick William Erskine Nicolson (1815-1899) of Carnock, 10th Baronet , entered the Navy 24 Nov. 1829 passed his examination in 1831 obtained his first commission 2 Jan. 1837,for his services as Senior Lieutenant in HMS Blonde in the operations of May, 1841, against Canton , and in Aug. and Oct. against Amoy and Chinghae, he was rewarded with a Commander’s commission dated 26 Aug, Commander in HMS Fantome in the Meditteranean he fought an action against the Barbary Pirates to recover the merchant ship 'Ruth' in which a Midshipman was lost and eight men wounded, Captain of HMS Pique during the Crimean War and 2nd Anglo Chinese War, 1861 Commodore Superintendent of Woolwich Dockyard, diameter 28cm.
Condition
Good overall condition with no cracks or chips, some minor crazing at bottom of bowl, paintwork faded in places.
