5 Russian Words Pussy Riot Wants Us All to Learn Before Trump Takes Office

For years, Pussy Riot has raged against Vladimir Putin and Russia's corrupt oligarchy. Now the punk collective is here to warn us about our incoming president.

"Make America Great Again" predicts a harrowing American future in which Los Angeles resident Nadya Tolokonnikova is arrested, jailed, and ultimately killed. In a new video, she offers a few Russian words to help us make sense of the madness that will soon envelop us:

1. жопа

"Zhopa" literally tanslates to "ass" but also means "we are in deep deep sh*t."

2. пиздец

"'Pizdets', is [an] expression of surprise, huge surprise." It also sounds very similar to the slang word пизда (pizda), the Russian word for c*nt.

"Mainly you would use [Pizdets] if you're surprised [but] not in a good way."

3. коррупция

"'Korrupsiya' means corruption... I feel like for a long time Americans felt like they don't really have corruption. The systems of financing political campaigns... is a pretty corrupted system. I think it's a good idea to know this word."

4. органы

"'Organy'... the closest meaning [in English] is law enforcement bodies. Of course when you say 'organy,' you express your attitude to them. You're kind of roaring at them."

Tolokonnikova indicates the word is rooted in a brutal political process that dates back to the Soviet era, when "organy" could open your door, kidnap and murder you.

"That's the word which you might have to know a under a Trump presidency."

5. козел

"'Kozyol'... means literally 'goat'.... that's how we call men in Russia."

I was horrified to read that a majority of Russians supported the arrest of Pussy Riot. This tells me that the illiberal attitudes of not just Putin but many Russians are a danger to the world. I'd suppose that these are the same Russians who view gay bashing urine spraying skin heads as a form of repairative theory for gay youth.

It seems to me that Russia is about 50 years behind the west in many aspects of their culture. I don't think it's realistic to expect them to be like the US, Britain, Canada, France, Germany etc. There are a lot of social revolutions they have yet to have. And maybe they never will be like us.

We don't know if the majority of Russians support the arrest of pussy riot, there simply is not enough independent Russian news to determine that. The few journalist that do write independently are censored, threatened, imprisoned and sometimes murdered. So whatever you read if it was allowed out of Russia by Putin no one can tell if it is true

Don't worry, Nadya, Americans have ALWAYS known they've had corruption. We've just never been able to discern its trappings.
